Silicone

It is a man-made polymer, with a backbone of silicon and oxygen. Silicon is an element found in silica, i.e., sand, one of the most common materials on earth. However, to make silicone, silicon is extracted from silica (it rarely exists by itself in nature) and passed through hydrocarbons to create a new polymer with an inorganic silicon-oxygen backbone and carbon-based side groups. What that means is that while the silicone might come from a relatively benign and plentiful resource like sand, the hydrocarbons in silicone come from fossil sources like petroleum and natural gas. So silicone is a kind of hybrid material.

Silicone

Food grade silicone is a type of silicone that is safe for use with foods. It is non toxic and used frequently in making moulds. Nibbling’s teething products are made using moulds.

BPA stands for bisphenol A. BPA is an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1960s.

Polycarbonate plastics (containing BPA) are often used in containers that store food and beverages, such as water bottles. Some research has shown that BPA can seep into food or beverages from containers that are made with BPA.

Exposure to BPA is a concern because of possible cipro online health effects of BPA on the brain, behaviour and the prostate gland of foetuses, infants and children. Additional research suggests a possible link between BPA and increased blood pressure.

Phthalates are chemical plasticizers that have been widely used since the 1950s to soften plastics that would otherwise be brittle and crack when bent. Because phthalates are not chemically bound to the plastics they’re added to, they’re continuously released into the air or food or liquid.

In the past few years, researchers have linked phthalates to asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, obesity and type II diabetes, low IQ neuro-developmental issues, behavioural issues, autism spectrum disorders, altered reproductive development and male fertility issues.

Yes, we use FDA (U.S. Federal Drug Administration) approved silicone. Silicone is odourless and tasteless and most importantly silicone will not support the growth of mould or bacteria. It’s similar to the silicone you will find in your kitchen on spatulas.

Safety

Nibbling jewellery has regular independent toxicity testing.
These tests also confirm that our bangles comply with European Standard EN 71 part 3 Migration of certain elements.

Nibbling Teething Necklaces have a breakaway clasp for added safety and to protect mums neck. The clasp will open when 5 pounds of pressure is applied. Strong enough to be tugged on but safe enough to pop open if it is heavily tugged on. Necklaces are designed to be worn by an adult. Nibbling’s teething necklaces are not a toy.

Nibbling Products

We recommend hand washing all of our products before use.

To maintain the cleanliness of your Nibbling jewellery, simply wash in warm soapy water, wipe with a wet wipe or if you would like to put it in the dishwasher you can – but the cord or ribbon will not last as long as if you’d hand washed it.
You can sterilise Nibbling jewellery with a steam steriliser. Store all sterilised Nibbling jewellery in a clean, dry place.

If your necklace or bracelet is worn by you but your child is not gnawing on it – then it should be good for some time. However, for continuous use as a teether substitute, we recommend to discard after 6 months, or if any irregularities occur.

All our pieces are designed in London, UK and manufactured in our socially responsible Chinese factory. Our products are made in China because currently, there are no producers of silicone jewellery in the United Kingdom.
